We would like to find caches with just one character in the cache name - whether it be a letter or digit or character. Is there a way to use project-gc to easily find a list or map of such caches? We need to find some for a challenge cache.

There is a name filter for the Map Compare page that will do exactly this (allowing matches to be first, last or anywhere). This function is only available for paying members of Project-GC.

Or do you mean caches that have one-character names? I realize I probably misread your question. If so, I don't have a good answer.
Caches with just a one-character name such as a, @, # etc.
I tried the search system on the main page and the advancen version. I could not found a option that give the result you asked for.
The closes was search for a single letter
a|b|c|d
and so on but the index system splits words by non letter and "3/1 D/T" is a hit
it could give you potential caches to look at manually. Only letters are index so @ cant be searched for
If only regexp search was possible but they would be expensive

The only way to do the search i know about is using GSAK
RegEx search on cache namne with
^.$
gives the correct answer to your question
Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
