On the Statistics - General (Overview) page, the right hand side of the page deals with 'Activity'.

In New Zealand, there were (apparently) 2651 "Active" cachers during April.

Using the 'Top Finders' tool for the month of April shows that 1170 cachers posted "found it" logs on caches, or their equivalent (which presumably means a DNF?).

My question is this:

What did the other 1481 people do to be considered "active"?

Sorry if you're getting bored of my question, but no one has actually answered it yet. Thank you.

I'm really not sure why I would receive a downvote for this.
Is it not a valid question?

Hi Twig.

A DNF is definitely activity (some of the finds on my caches during lockdown were DNFs, many newbie cachers out there trying something new)

I suspect posting a write note will also count as activity - activity will mean any log type.

A DNF is not an equivalent to a Found it. The only equivalent logs I know of are "Attended" and "Webcam photo taken".

Hi tS. A comment by sumbloke on the previous incarnation of this thread claimed that write notes did not constitute 'activity'.
Personally, I would have thought that they would, as would discovering a TB, but I would love to get a definitive answer on this query so we can know with some conviction what people in New Zealand have been doing under Levels 4 and 3 lockdowns. We both know how stats can be used to confound rather than inform those who do not understand them.

Thanks for the input regarding the question of 'equivalents'. I asked for clarification previously and had not been answered.

I have just noticed that the figure for the 'Active Cachers in NZ' in the General Overview for Last Month has been altered from what it was showing previously (2651) down to a new figure of 1169 which tallies (to within daily fluctuations of logging) with the total of Found It logs for the month as determined using the 'Top Finders' tool.

Great! I assume that means that the former stat was in fact a glitch, which has now been taken care of yes

I will stop asking my question now laugh
