Can a checker verify the existence of at least 1 active cache w/in a polygon?

I know I can check for caches found by the specified user within a polygon.  I'd like to be able to determine if an active cache exists within the polygon (regardless of found status).  

I haven't seen this implemented anywhere else, and I have a feeling it would be a fairly processor intensive check.

It is not possible. There is no API function to give that information. There exist no API function to get caches in an area .

 

It would not be processor incentive to get that from the database. I would guess that the reason for no API methods it harder to harvest data from the system.

 

Look at the second statement you have to agree to when you create a checker:

 

I hear by agree to that I will not in any way use this system to try to harvest data from neither project-gc.com or geocaching.com, Neither will I try to use it in any way to exploit or hurt either of the mentioned web sites.

Thanks for the answer.  To be clear, this wasn't to harvest data.  I have a challenge where some areas may not contain an active cache, and by the rules of challenge they are therefore to be disregarded.  I was hoping for a programmatic solution to this, rather than having to maintain this manually.

I never suspected that harvesting was your reason for the checker.
