wildcard search

Question

I would love to see the Wildcard search be a little more versitile and user-friendly to those of us who are not tech savvy. I would like to be able to be more specific about the items for which I am searching. For example: if I want to find all the caches in Florida whose CO's caching names begin with the number 1, I would type in {Florida 1*}, however, this is going to give me both the cacher's name and the cache's name itself that begin with the number 1. Additionally, I will get all of the archived/disabled caches that meet the criteria and I would like to be able to filter those out as well.

We do have plans to build an "advanced search".

Imagine Geocaching.com's old search page which had a lot of fields. But instead of having one search button for each field, we will have one button that combines the fields and their input.

Presumably this would be like/the same as the Custom filters?
What would be nice would be to have some magic filter expressions like 'missing D/T' or 'missing hidden date' or 'missing hidden month' which can be combined to produce a map of caches that fulfil one of multiple chanlenges

In my mind, it would be like a very easy to use search engine. Custom filters isn't very easy to use for "normal people".

All I can say about that is that it won't be possible with the next iteration. But it sounds reasonable to try to combine it with those as well in the future.

In the meantime, is there a magic keyword that I can use in the wildcard search that will only display active (not archived or disabled) in the search results? Continuing with the example from above {Florida 1* active} or something. Is there listing of these keywords somewhere?

No, but you can probably do exactly what you want using MapCompare. You do not have to compare with anyone and you can filter on cache name as well (if you are a paying member).
