[Resolved] New checker for GC8104E

Hi there
I am wanting to see if I can get a checker made for my unpublished cache GC8104E.

This is a cache to do with the state of Victoria (Australia) public holidays.
I have been given conditional approval, based on the development of the checker!.

I have a similar cache for you to use as a reference, from another state (South Australia)

The public holildays I would like to use are:
1st January - New Years Day
26th January - Australia Day
Labour Day - 2nd Monday in March (variable date)
Good Friday (Variable date)
Easter Saturday (variable date)
Easter Sunday (variable date)
Easter Monday (Variable date)
25th April - ANZAC day
Queens Birthday - 2nd Monday in June (variable date)
AFL Grand Final Friday (variable date - started in 2015)
Melbourne Cup Day - 1st Tuesday in November (variable date)
25th December - Christmas Day
26th December - Boxing Day

I see from the checker above, that variable dates can be accounted for and hope that this will still be the case for this challenge.

Other criteria for this challenge, is to allow all types (virtual, event and physical) and to allow for all past finds of any year.

AFL Grand Final Friday is a new public holiday celebrating a sport that is primarly Victorian and it started in 2015.
Previous dates are:
2015 - October 2nd
2016 - September 30th
2017 - September 29th
2018 - September 27th
2019 - is listed as September 27th.
2020 has not been announced yet.

I would love to see what you can do with this.

I forgot to mention that this challenge is for caches PLACED on these dates and found any time through out the year, not FOUND on the dates, as GCHQ wont allow that.

I think there is an glitch at the moment.
User Tyred n Cranky does not pass for AFL grand final date but on looking at their stats they should pass.
Perhaps the AFL Grand Final dates need checking?
Can I check that this is for hidden/placed date?

Which cache did you think they found which was hidden on 2/10/15, 30/9/16, 29/9/17 or 28/9/18? I couldn't find any. https://project-gc.com/Challenges//22056 can give you the hidden dates if you want to check against what Project-GC is using for the checkers.

And yes, this is using the hidden dates as requested. There isn't anything in the output, but the tag config should be clear.

The local reviewer sent me this
"1. Looking at the Checker output I see that for Easter dates and AFL Grand Final Friday there are specific lists which I assume specify dates by year. Can you please establish the range of years being covered by these lists?"

AFL GF Friday would be 2015-2018 currently.
I think they are wanting to ensure dates for Easter cover Victorian Easter dates.

If it is not to be inclusive of other States then a geographical provision needs to be put in the Checker to ensure that the dates only relate to caches placed in Victoria. eg., Melbourne Cup, AFL Grand Final as well as Queens Birthday and Labour Day."


So, I am thinking that I will need to make the hidden/placed dates year specific to co-incide with the Victorian public holiday.
Also, only to use cache placed/hidden in the state of Victoria, Australia.
And to confirm the public holiday dates used are the Victorian ones, which often have different dates from state to state.

Would it be possible to get a detailed date range for the variable public holidays?
Also I messed up the AFL GF 2018 date - it is the 28th of Sept not the 27th.

Please let me know what you think or if you need more information.

1. The Easter dates are in the script for 2000-2099. AFL Grand Final Friday for 2015-2019. I can give you more details tomorrow when I'm at a real keyboard...

2. Both conditions must be met for a cache to be counted. I.e., on a Monday in the range 8/3 - 14/3 for the first one listed. This will limit it to the public holidays unless there's an exception to the standard method of allocating the date (which is unlikely for those).

3. I guess this one is up to your preference as CO. Either we restrict the geographic location or you word the challenge something like "find caches placed on dates which were public holidays in Victoria". I'll follow your preference.

For #3 I'm not sure I'd qualify if we restrict the geographical location but would like to try it before moving on.
Can you see what happens if you do restrict the challenge to Victoria placed caches and use my cacher name as a test?
If I don't qualify then open it up?

Anyway, let me know which way you're going (once you've decided) and I'll remove the other checker.

Actually I'll see what I can do about finding one of the placed caches.

Which one did you use? 39782 or 39934?

39934 was the one I used, purely Victorian and I qualify for it now too!!
It seemed more appropriate to go 100% Victorian if I could.
